Discovering Golden Grass
The Capim Dourado
This naturally golden plant grows wild and exclusively in the Jalapão Nature Reserve in the state of Tocantins, Brazil.

The plant being endemic to this one and only region in the world, its harvest is of course regulated there by the state (from September 20 to November 20) in order to protect the plant and especially not to exhaust the resource. The harvest is mainly dedicated to the local communities and the plant can only leave the region as finished products which allows the locals to preserve their know-how, their tradition and their history in their small villages of Jalapão.
This handcraft represents, above all, the only resource of these local communities united in associations. We invite you therefore to participate and support a solidarity economy, sustainable development while making you benefit from what the nature of Jalapão offers us.
All our products are entirely made by local craftsmen and women selected above all for the finesse of their work. Coming from ancestral know-how acquired and transmitted from generation to generation in the families of these small villages, this craft allows them to perpetuate human and ecological values as well as the history of the Capim Dourado.
« In the 15th century, the last Inca king, Atahualpa, had to hide the Inca treasure in a secret place, as the Spanish conquest of South America was raging.
Atahualpa asked that his treasure being transformed into gold dust and entrusted it to the God of Wind, who, with a breath, transported it to an unknown plain in Brazil and gave it back to Mother Earth, Pachamama.
Thus was born in the Amazon a plant unique in the world, called Capim Dourado. »
